DCCsound projects

  1. How do I receive your sound projects?

    Several avenues exist. Firstly, a bare LokSound decoder can be posted to us, or secondly a complete loco with decoder can be sent. Alternatively customers can drop in at a convenient time and we can reflash the decoder "while U wait".

  2. How do you choose future projects?

    We base projects mainly upon Victorian prototypes. There is little point going to the effort of recording a locomotive's sound for which no model exists. If a manufacturer announces a future product, then we can concentrate on acquiring the sounds for that model.

  3. Do you use old videos for sourcing your sounds?

    Sounds are taken using digital sound recording equipment, direct from secured locomotives. We don't use DVDs or video tapes for creating sound projects.

  4. I have several locos of the same type and I'd like to mix the airhorns up a bit

    There was considerable variation in the sound of airhorns of the RVB Hurricane across the different classes and within classes of locomotives. We offer several different recordings of the 3 chime RVB Hurricane air horn, so for example we can reflash two decoders with different recordings for added variety.

Decoders

  1. Which LokSound do you recommend and where to buy?

    Refer to the sound files page for the complete listing or sound projects. Each locomotive model specifies which decoder to use, based upon the available room. The specific type of factory sound is not important, as we erase and reflash our files into the decoder's memory.  LokSound decoders are available at quality model train stores and through ebay. Contact the Australian distributor, Frey Imports if you cannot find a stockist.

  2. Which decoders are compatible with your sound projects?

    Currently, LokSound and Zimo decoders are compatible. We selected LokSound as ESU offer the most prototypically representative sound architecture available at present. Zimo decoders are also very good, but lack acceleration, deceleration and coasting schedules.
