For sound modellers of the Victorian Railways

DCCSound files by VR model

Project files suit ESU LokSound® v3.5 decoders (N, HO & O scale). To protect our IP, we do not email out sound files. We can load the files to your LokSound® equipped locomotive or uninstalled LokSound® decoder. Customers can send in their decoders or locos (prefitted with decoder) to DCCSound (Melbourne, Australia or Texas, USA), who then update the decoder (we ensure the decoder functions as intended) and the items are then returned.

DCCSound only exchanges the LokSound sound files for our own sound files. We don't download, distribute or alter ESU's proprietary content. Loksound v3.5 decoders and most of sound files operate on DC too.

Due to continual development, DCCSound files are subject to change without notice.

What's included with our files

Many DCC sound decoders can be programmed with alternate sounds from the field. The majority of decoders offer either European or North American sounds, and somewhat fail to provide the nuances associated with the unique sounds of our Clyde-EMD sourced Victorian motive power. Sounds which can be substituted for the factory default sounds include (but are not limited to):

  • Prime mover start-up, idle and shutdown sequences
  • Prime mover notching up and down
  • Transient/dynamic sounds as the locomotive accelerates/decelerates or coasts
  • Air horns, couplers, air let off, dynamic brakes

The correct horn type and prime mover sound should be selected for each locomotive. The following is a general guide to Victorian broad-gauge motive power*:
