This particular J class was built in 1994, and is a really nice example of a quality built Samhongsa model.
Disassembly
First, the locomotive's chassis is removed from the body through a screw on the top of the pony truck, then two screws near the cab floor.
The tender is then disassembled through four screws holding the frame to the jacket.
The DC only wiring was altered such that the pickups which run to the motor were disconnected and reconnected to the tender bogies. The motor was isolated and wired to the tender using a 2 pin micro plug/socket.
DCC fitout
The following items were then fitted to the tender:
ESU (58420) LokSound V5 8 pin decoder,
DCCSound Stay-alive unit,
DCCSound Premium twin driver speaker (4 ohm), specific to the PSM J class.
Finally the tender and locomotive were reassembled and tested.
