DCCSound Premium sugarcube speaker to suit IDR 70 class

To access the 8 pin plug, first the coupler assemblies are removed via the two screws on the underside of the model. Then, 4 small screws are removed which hold the body to the chassis.

Gently lift the body off from the chassis.

The speaker is then place forward of the cab, in the small well of the chassis, as shown below. Run the two speaker wires under the cab and to the area where the decoder will reside.

Ensure the lower speaker connection is well insulated and does not contact the metal chassis. If it is not sufficiently insulated from the chassis, a terminal short may occur at the decoder.

Not a lot of space is permitted for a sound decoder, so consideration should be given to removing the 8 pin plug and motherboard. The long hood end lighting board is soldered to the 8 pin motherboard, though they can be disconnected with a soldering tip.

The decoder can then be hardwired to the model's wiring if so desired.

Once the speaker and decoder have been installed, the body and couplers are refitted.
