This model is one of three from Hornby's Birth of the Railways train pack.

Items required: ESU LokSound 5 Micro (Next18 interface) decoder

Optional:

11x15mm speaker with sealed enclosure

Disassembly:

All work is completed in the engine. The engine is turned upside and the small hatch removed. The Next18 DC board is removed.

Assembly:

Fit the decoder to the small PCB, ensuring a good fit into the Next18 socket.

Wrap the decoder and PCB in insulative tap to prevent a short once the decoder is inserted into the engine.

Carefully insert the wires and decoder into the engine. Refit the hatch with the small screw. Optional:

To deliver the best sound possible, and completed with this model, the tender was disassembled via two small screws located under the tender floor to access the speaker.

Although a speaker comes fitted from the factory, a replacement 11x15mm speaker driver and sealed enclosure was fitted. No soldering is required as the speaker's spring loaded contacts interface with the PCB on the tender floor.
